Anthony Gobert won't be riding a KTM at the Super Motard race at Laguna Seca, says team liaison Mitch Hansen. Gobert tested a KTM at the 'Motard track at Road America earlier this week, but either things didn't go very well or KTM's plans have changed.
Speaking from the Motard track on Tuesday, Hansen said that the team's line-up is still being formulated but Gobert won't be a part of it.
"Anthony enjoyed his time here but it looks like he has some other options, some Superbike stuff," said Hansen. There's two conflicting dates, Laguna and Virginia. I don't think you can race both the roadrace and Super-Moto events at Laguna, it'd be real tough to do it, schedule wise.
"I think Anthony's heart is in roadracing and he's probably got some stuff happening there, so we wish him well," Hansen said.
Gobert was impressive and fast when he last rode a 'Motard bike, Yamaha press rep. Brad Bannister's YZ in a parking lot at one of the 2002 West Coast Supercrosses.
The Gobert camp says that other than a ride at the eight hours of Suzuka, there are no current plans for the former wild child of roadracing to jump on a Superbike.
Rumors of Gobert riding with Yamaha this season or signing to ride a Yamaha for 2004 persist.
